Netscape still says it can't make a connection. Don't know if this bears on the problem or not, but Netscape 3.x.x seems to suffer from electronic Alzheimer's occasionally. The cure for it was to go to Mail and Newsgroup Preferences select Identity and click the box that says: Use Internet

I just thought of something; earlier I think you mentioned that, either in MacTCP or TCP/IP, you had the choice of ethernet or alternate ethernet. Do you have an ethernet port in the rear of your 1400? If you do, it would be the last port on the left inside the rear port cover door.

Okay, I tried the computer on the network at work today. I could actually see the homepage! Then the problems started. I got one Java error message after another, until I got the sad Mac and error 11--restart. Which I did three times. The fourth time, I got the sad mac and the computer locked up.

The 1400 probably does not have enough RAM or CPU for Netscape 6. NS 4.75, 4.78, 4,79 are probably about it. I use NS 6 at home on my old PCI MACs and IE 5 on my 1400 until I have time to sort out NS 4.79 on it. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Small Dog
