Hello listers,
I have recently acquired a dead 5300ce from which I scavenged the
display assembly and have put it onto a working 5300 (that had a
grayscale screen). The system booted right away and the bigger screen
with active matrix really looks great. However, I have difficulties

does anybody know which is the controller chip for the ethernet part

Take a look here and see if there's anything useful you can discern.

Hi
I was told some powerbooks that used SCSI drives actually
came with IDE drives with an adaptor. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
I've got a roughly 1 GB SCSI drive in a Duo 280c, but given the
difficulty I
had in getting it (2 years ago now, I think), I may have gotten the

Sure, but not with Apple DVD player. You must use VLC (videolan

Hi listers
I am about to rebuild a couple of Intelligent NiMh Batteries that are
used in PowerBooks 500 series (520,540 and 550) that are not so
intelligent anymore to hold a charge. I have found what seems to be a
replacement type of cell batteries. They are a bit smaller (14 x 50 mm

Hi
Having read the PowerBook 5xx PPC upgrade tech doc I am puzzled by
following:
RAM expansion:
The processor upgrade card accepts a RAM expansion card with up
to 56 MB, for a total of 64 MB of RAM. The RAM expansion card is the
same as the

Hi list,
I read on LEM web site an article about booting a Powerbook from a
CompactFlash card (http://www.lowendmac.com/macdan/02/1114dk.html)
with great interest. Although it specifically states that on a
Powerbook 500 series it shouldn't work (it says: PowerBook 520/540/550

Someone posted a link that shows a 500 series Powerbook expanded to a

Would anyone be interested in a CPU upgrade for the 500 series PowerBook?
It's a 100 MHz 603e Apple CPU, works perfectly.

Hi
I've able to upgrade it to 117 MHz 603e and to 40 Mb of RAM ...
You must have one of the rare NewerTech cards with on-CPU RAM. Most have zero
on-CPU RAM, so the maximum RAM on a PPC-upgraded 540 would be 32 MB.
Do you have the proper NewerTech control panel installed?
