Write: OutLoud Installation trouble

I just borrowed Write: OutLoud 2.0 from someone and it won't install. It says "Sorry, but a disk related error (-36) has occured." Again, nothing important is on there and I'm not going to replace anything in a $12 laptop because replacement parts will end up costing more than that. If it fails, it fails. I'll be sad but considering the computer is held together with duct tape, it won't kill me if it stops working.

My main machine is my PowerBook 520c with 20MB of RAM. It can do almost everything I want (slowly) except for the CD-ROM stuff. I use my PC a lot though because it has a CD-RW drive. I vastly prefer the Mac versions of SimAnt and SimFarm over the Win versions. Can the 1400 CD-ROM drive read CD-Rs?

PRAM battery

OK, so I was looking at some instructions for replacing the PRAM battery in the 500 series and it looks hard! Having someone replace it for me would cost more than the computer. Anyway, I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get some more life out of the old one. It's completely dead.
