I've heard that the 1400's NiMH batteries contain AA batteries, and
that it's possible to rebuild one using AA rechargeables. True? Can
anyone direct me to info/directions on how to do this?

NiMH packs can be rebuilt since their cells have standard sizes
usually. A
Hi all;
There's one post in the LEM list archices about a battery part # to use for rebuilding
the cells in the 1400 battery.
I've been meaning to do this for a while, it's time to just do it.
If anyone has more recent info about doing this (other cells numbers or anything,
please feel free
Exacto knives and I are not good friends...
You've probably only tried a #11 (knife point) blade.
Try a #17 (chisel point) blade. Not that good for cutting, but great for
general prying, and also for cutting any internal retention tabs.

I just rebuilt one using cells from DigiKey.com, part: P018T-ND 4/3A Nickel
Metal Hydride.
The case comes apart easily with some careful prying and pulling then it's
a matter of pulling the connections off the cells with fine-nosed pliers,
and soldering the new cells in place. Pay careful

Hi Aly -- Take a look at

They say they'll rebuild a 1400 battery for $84 plus $5 shipping --
Can the 1400's battery be readily rebuilt or is it one with the goofy
chips in it that would make it hard to rebuild it right?
Thanks,
Brian

Hi all! Questions on this topic -- where (online? mail it in? resources?)
can I get a 1400 battery rebuilt? What kind of performance/results after
the rebuild? Does it cost significantly less than new battery? Not heard
of this before and am quite intrigued... Thanks very much...

KS,
I had mine rebuilt by a local outfit called Battery Boys here in
Saskatoon. Cost me $125.00 CDN I think. The results were comparable to
buying a new one which was over $200.00. The 1400 battery is a Nicad I
believe so I was told it was just a matter of replacing the battery
cells. The

I don't have a 1400, but I have had experience
Gosh, that is lucky you had someone locally who had the knowledge to do it.
Though this used to be a Mac-friendly town (the university was almost
exclusively Mac) it's gone the way of the PC (#1 reason I got my 1400cs for a
ridiculously low price -- nobody knew what it was!) and anyone who knew
