Grr. Problem Resolved. Thanks all for your help with my apparently non-booting 3400c. It turns out that while the PRAM battery was completely, absolutely dead, that wasn't the problem. The power socket needed to be resoldered to the board! It turns out that the previous owner was probably a

Assuming that the battery is dead (I can't test it w/ my voltmeter because it's still boxed up somewhere - stupid boxes from the move!), does anyone know what kind of cells it takes? It is some sort of standard NiMH (not lithium) pack - I think maybe panasonic(???) - but beware there are two ve

I believe this has to do with the GLOD (green led of death) of the 190/5300 series. I have several logic boards from 190 and 5300 with the same symptoms. Have you noticed if the sleep light goes on? Ben -- PowerBooks is sponsored by and... Small Dog Electronicshttp://

Well, today I picked up a non-DOA PMU from eBay and put it in my 3400c. It still didn't boot. It didn't even click. I heard a slight whine, but nothing else. I've tried the reset button, removing the PRAM battery, etc, all to no avail. Do you guys have any ideas on how to get it working? F

Andrew, The battery total voltage is 7.5 -8.2 at full charge, is made up of 6 button cells whose designation I can't read as the pack I have here at work was very badly corroded, the pack is designed to hang under the sound board and knowing 3400's perchant for power problems I would be reluctan

Thanks for the suggestions. What I'm hearing is that a PRAM battery with a low charge could cause problems on the 3400c (certainly not surprising, especially given the 5300 experience). I am somewhat surprised that it could prevent booting entirely - I've actually never seen a Mac where this is

Andrew, By all means replace the PRAM battery, a trouble shooting guide I've used on 3400's calls out : replace the PRAM battery, then the Power Supply Module, and last the Logic board, after the usual series of resets and as a another member mentioned leave it plugged in for a day or so and

Hi all! A few months ago, I picked up enough parts to build a 3400c/180 or 3400c/200 (two mobos, two PMU boards, only one display). The seller told me (before I agreed to buy, of course!) that the PMUs were probably no good, but that maybe one of them might work... Well, today I picked up a no
