Hello,
I just spent two hours at our church trying to help our paster get his
laptop to connect to the internet.
It is a new Compaq laptop with a wireless connection and was working fine
last week.

wireless hangover. An annoyance that also happens to me once in awhile.

1. Make sure the router does not have a MAC address filter installed; if it
does add your MAC address getting access to

2. If you have w WEP or WPA encryption turned on make sure the remote laptop
has the same key and that you have

Did you try to repair the wireless connection it got?
Did you try to refresh the list of available connections and then
disconnect, reconnect?
Sometimes the router can get hung up and needs rebooting. If all else
fails, try rebooting the router

Hello,
Yes, I did the repair and it just kept saying invalid IP.
I refreshed the list of routers ... there are 2 in the building and it
sees
both of them,
just can not connect to them.

I've seen this happen before.
1. Make sure you have dhcp selected on the laptop, if
not it's going to try to connect to the hard ip which
may be in use, or not in the proper IP range.
2. Make sure dhcp client services is turned on.
3. Turn off your firewall just in case.
