Hi all,
Many thanks for your replies!
I am using Sonar as of today for recording MIDI, doing some mixing and
mastering also.
I have been thinkibg about a Mac some day, and if I get it I would like to know
that I can record MIDI and audio, edit and add effects, work with softsynths,
move between
Hi, yes. As with most DAWs, they all include their own stock synths, and
all sorts of other plugins. As far as I know, the ones I have used
(Deverb, and others) are accessible to some degree, and even more so if you
have a control surface. Pro-tools does come with synths such as vacuum, TL
Thanks for the heads up. I've been finding drafts of messages even though I
thought I sent them. Upon sending again, they disappear from my Out box. I'll
try to figure out what's going on.
Thanks,
Slau

Hi Chi,
Yes, there is a difference. The focus on accessibility in the future will be on
version 11. There were improvements to 10.3.8 for sure but it was not the
primary concentration. From now on, any updates to version 10 will be general
maintenance and will not likely include significant
So as far as I understand, the MC universal pro is only a control surface with
no audio ins such as line ins, pre's or optical/SPDIF, so in order to run audio
in you would still need an audio interface to run external press into the DAW?
I do have a mackie Onyx 16 20I around, could that be the
Hi Slau, Thanks for replying. I am hanging in there. I just asked since the
rest of this window was made accessible, I was a bit sup prised that these
2 pop up menus were left out. None of the window was accessible in version
10. Thanks again for every thing. Jason

Yes, the Mackie Universal is only a surface and you'd have to use a separate
audio interface such as the Onyx. Avid supports just about every interface out
there but you might have to install drivers that are available either from the
Avid site or within the software download.

Sorry, how much would what cost? The Universal Control or the Onyx? regardless,
I own neither and don't know. Perhaps others will chime in or a simple search
of an audio retailer's site would give you some idea. Also, there's always the
second-hand route which has its pros and cons.

This is why I really like my alesis master mix control surface. It works well
with a lot of daws including pro tools, and it does have a decent audio
interface.
Although it only has 2 mic pres, it does have 8 line inputs and s/pdif and adat
inputs. The jog wheel is very smooth for
I will check that out Gord, how are the AD converters?

Hi. As is the case with all the small format control surface/firewire
interface combos, the Alesis master mix/master control fw has been
discontinued.

Pro Tools 11 only supports AAX 64Bit plug ins. Thats why they work under 10 but
not 11. You will have to upgrade the plug inst to the AAX 64 BIT versions

From what i heard when Avid pushed Mavericks support in Pro Tools 11.0.3 it
broke the compatibility with running version 10 on the same mavericks
partition. 10.3.8 and 11.1 should be able to coexist on the same partition
again though under mavericks.

Give the Allen Heath ZED R16 a look. 16 mic and line inputs on ever channel,
plus ADAT and the stereo master all can be sent to the computer over FW for a
total of 26 I/O. I prefer the is over the Mackie 1620 and 1640 since you can
route to the master channel and not have to use up one of
