Hi Micha,
upgrade libgdal1.5 to 1.6 and all should be ok.
For packagers : using the qgis PPA repository on a fresh Jaunty installation,
qgis1.3 crashes like in this case because libgdal1.5 is installed by default.
The ubuntuGis PPA is ok and directly install the 1.6 version. Is it possible to
Augustin,
sorry to not mention them :

Hi!
Could somebody write few examples of
using the qgis python console and
(best) post them to the user's corner?
I think that this is a very nice feature in qgis that is rarely used.
Thanks!

Jürgen,
Hmm, maybe the download page on the website should be updated because it is the
recommanded PPA...

Do I understand correctly that the regular apt repo (not ubuntugis)
listed on the qgis site:

Great job, sorry I cannot test faster these days.
I understand that writing a help page will
take a while, but perhaps by now you could just
add the definition provided in

in the menu of each of the tools? Some names
are pretty clear, some others are not.
Thanks, this is a nice workaround, as I'm actually making
the gpx files out of compegps files through gpsbabel.
Anyway, the gps plugin should contemplate the possibility of opening
multiple files
and open vector layer should let you select the actual layer for all
selected files

Good idea Augus...
I will try to add an example of buffering a point layer, any other takers?

Hi A. P. Dhurandhar,
Could you please provide us with some more information here? Did you try
using the Plugin intaller?
If yes, what were the errors messages that you received etc.?
This will allows us to help you better...

Hi!
Just a quick note to let you now this morning, after the mail thread, I did
the following:
1. sudo apt-get purge qgis*
2. Add 'deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstablehttp://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu'
and comment out all the other qgis
Thanks Micha.
It really solved my problem. Also, to overcome the installed dependencies
issue, I used '--force' option:
rpm -i /usr/tmp/qgis/rpm/*.rpm --force -v
Please let me know if I am messing up things by the above command.
Thanks,
Ela.

There's this little snippet of how to use some of the routines from my
rasterlang package in python:
Dear Friends,
I want to insert my own symbols in my map.
I am displaying map using mapserver and openlayers.
But when I create the mapfile using qgis and click Symbols for the different
layers I find that it allows its own symbols to be selected.
I cannot insert my own symbol into the symbol
All,
I recently started using QGIS on Linux in order to completely rid myself
of proprietary software. I've been a Slackware user since the days of 5

available for the newer releases of qgis.
So I've created my own

Hi all.
Today I had the chance of testing the raster tools on windows. Several of them
work
fine, but I had errors with polygonize:

Jim,
Haven't tested it yet, but great job: using Slax (slackware based
distribution) with SlaxGIS (GIS module for slax) and adapting your QGIS1,3
(geos and proj are more recent on your built) we probably have an excellent
USB live FOOS4GEO system with grass postgis,... and qgis.
