when I "uncheck" the ortho layer, the property boundary (the shapefile)
appears. When I display the ortho imagery again, no boundary. It is like the
shapefile is "under" the ortho image, when I of course want it to show "on" the
ortho image. most seems like a vector display issue to me.What do
Hi Jim,
That sounds a lot like a projection issue.
Are your layers completely misaligned, like not overlapping at all? Or
are they overlapping but with just a few (hundred) meters shift?
An easy trick is adding the world layer and see which of your layers
appears at the expected spot. You
Hi Anita, Harrissou,
Yes, this is what I mean. I think the intermediate colors (stops) make
the ramp more beautiful, cause this way you can adjust the hue,
saturation and value in curved ways along the ramp, instead of doing
linear interpolation between 2 colors. I also figured out that "our"
Why is my shapefile that I imported into project, not showing up with my
orthoimage. The shapefile is a property line boundary.ThanksJim___

Hi,
Trying to quickly change the starting color of a default continuous ramp, I
realize that changing the first color is not enough, you need to
change/remove the intermediate ones also, in order to have something smooth.
So, question: why do we need stops in a color ramp that is supposed to be

Quite the contrary. I often have the need to change the starting color to real
white or even transparent.
It's
Thank you.
I did and I think I an seeing that ulimit may not be
the issue. It might still be an issue on servers,
but with my settings I think I am good on ulimit values.
/proc/1/limits shows:
Limit Soft Limit Hard Limit Units
Max cpu time
The ramps that go from white to color (just 2 colors - for example
white/green) have more stops than needed. I would just delete the
intermediate stops and set the first to the pale green of your choice.
Then save your new color ramp for future use.
For maximum contrast between high and low
Try some searches related to setting ulimit default, or at login. There
should be a script somewhere where you could set this and it would apply to
QGIS and anything else you run.

Thanks for the response. I think when I double
the ulimit to 2048 I am not really doing anything
positive for QGIS. I think it is just increasing
the ulimit for the terminal window, since each
terminal window appears to have its own ulimit.
Doubling the ulimit to 2048 also doesn't appear to
Would adapting and using this code help at all?

Hi Harrissou,
Thanks! But I don't want to invert the color ramp, I want to get rid of
the first class that looks all white. I think it should have a color.
And I know how to manually change it, but it would be nice if QGIS could
produce these "better" styles by default.
Will send an
Hi Raymond,
Instead of changing manually, why not "Invert the Color ramp" when applying
it?

Am I the only one who would like the color ramps in QGIS to NOT start
from (super nearly) white, but from a light version of the color?
For example, "Reds" should go from (light) pink to red.
Currently, the first class in my legend always looks white, as many
other parts of my map often do.
Hi Mike,
you probably encounter the "max file opened by your system" issue. And shp
count for 3.
Best advice is to switch to DB connexions, which do not open any file and
removes this limit

I have a qgs file with about 470 layers.
Roughly 100 of those layers are grouped together in
7 groups. All layers are SHP or geojson. Most
are geojson. I cannot have all the layers on, but
I can have most of them turned on. It takes a

Hi Anna,
I would start by examining how GDAL reads your shapefile, by executing
at the commandline:
ogrinfo name.shp name -summary
Then follow the error messages there (or paste the response here so we
can all see).
Also verify that the shapefile's associated files live in the same
Hi!
Am i right that you "just" want to open a shapefile in QGIS?
First would be: who is the creator?
does the shapefile open where it has been created?
Are all necessary files available? (shapefile can be several files)
maybe you can use ogr2ogr to transform it into a valid shapefile.

What can I do if I want to upload a shape file to my qgis and it always says
that data source is not valid?
