Hi all,
I have a rather long, wood-decking ramp leading into the house that freezes
over quickly whenever there is moisture in the air and the temperature
drops to freezing, sort of like the bridges freezing over first on the
roads. You don't even notice the ice until you step on it so it is

Hi Greg,
I used to use a deicer on the sidewalks around my home. I did not have a ramp
but I think it would work on the ramp better than salt will. I do not remember
the name of the product but if you search for deicers on the Internet I am sure
you will find something. It is crystalline and
they also sell paint with sand mixed in. When dry you get a nice
rough surface. You can also make your own by adding sand to the paint
of your choice. This way you can put as much sand as you want --
within reason. I tried those stick on strips but they don't last that
long and after a while st
Greg,
I put safety tape on my wooden deck.

It is to cold to install now. It must be 50 degrees, I think.
I throw sand on ice since it does not harm wood but can get in house.

My friend, Luis, was a big videogamer before his spinal cord injury. He has
developed a game controller for quads with limited hand function, such as
himself. The patent is pending and prototypes are in production. Check it
out, gamers!

I'm not sure how to solve the icy problem... but if you haven't already done
so, it would probably be a good idea to put up a warning sign, e.g. ramp
freezes before sidewalk...
Take care,

Greg,
I had a wooden ramp at my mother-in-laws (she has since passed away) that
I painted with sand paint. I put on a few coats and it did help when it was wet
or icy, I bought it at Home Depo.

My first answer would be: move to Arizona. But that is not possible for
everyone.
I found a good discussion about making a heated ramp on a woodworkers bulletin
board [read down--they discuss several ideas.]

Permanent removal of a toe nail (usually the large one) is not that
unusual. This is the cure to fungus and bacteria. Ultimately, its an issue
between your foot doctor and you base on, ingrown toenails, infections and
partial removal.

There are some chemical sprays that can be used before the ice begins.
Orange-Anti Ice, works on most surface, providing one follows the directions
for application. There are several non salt chemicals too.
Trial n Error.

Have you considered a portable phone? When I'm
alone I always carry one with me around the house. They are very light weight.
