I made a similar gamble in buying a 64MB simm for a 630 dos compatible, sight unseen (all I knew was it was FPM, which I'd heard was the most important determinant of success), which sort of succeeded. It didnt work on the DOS side (was seen as only 16MB), but it was properly recognized on the Mac
