Point-in-polygon routines are pretty fast and straightforward to use. If it's
about reducing computing time, then maybe for "irregular" polygons it would be

I am trying to figure out how to randomly jitter points within an overlying
polygon structure.
I can easily jitter the points themselves, but I would like this to be
constrained by the boundaries of polygons containing the points.
This isn't for visualization - I can do that easily enough in
, but for basic combinations
of rasters and vectors there's been no problem at all.

ESRI / ArcGIS has moved beyond shapefiles too with the advent of geodatabases.
In a GIS environment these are superior to shapefiles in many ways, and ESRI in
its own training and help resources encourage geodatabases over shapefiles. As

Hi,
I'm trying to prepare data for FlexScan to use the flexible cluster scan
statistic, and I'm having difficulty getting data in the right format.
The problem seems to be in the creation of a neighbor matrix file. I've been

Hi,
I'm trying to use the cluster analysis program Flexscan, which I gather is
similar to Satscan but it computes irregular clusters. This program requires a
polygon adjacency matrix (termed a 'matrix definition file'). The example they
provide has a row for every polygon, and for each row
