The alarm is easily the Squeezebox's weakest feature, IMO. But for all of its quirks (and there have been many), I can't remember the last time that the alarm didn't go off in some capacity. 1 out of every 5 mornings tends to be the fallback sound, but at least it makes SOME noise in the morning

I have used the Boom as an alarm reliably for just over a year. The audio stream is set to a URL of the local NPR station. This recently started failing, but I can watch the Boom alarm trigger, then connect, so I believe it is the stream that fails. Of course, the Boom can't detect this failure.

The Booms alarm in my opinion is much more unreliable. Sure - if everything is ok it will sound an alarm (as will the Radio), but if something is wrong (server connection or stream) it will silently fail, where the Radio has a much better fallback mechanism. Indeed - most people complaining about

Ok all this has got me thinking. I might cancel and get the SB Boom now. It's not a great deal more expensive and I'm looking for reliability so the extra money would be worth it, if it's a better product overall. Is it? Plus I thought it probably sounds better with 2 speakers over the radio's 1.
