The alarm is easily the Squeezebox's weakest feature, IMO. But for all
of its quirks (and there have been many), I can't remember the last
time that the alarm didn't go off in some capacity. 1 out of every 5
mornings tends to be the fallback sound, but at least it makes SOME
noise in the morning
I'd really appreciate an applet like this. I am not able to describe how
much I have come to hate that default backup alarm sound.

I wouldn't rely on internet radio to wake you up. Think of all the
variables that could prevent an internet radio stream connecting: Your
internet connection going down due to a power cut, telephone line
problem, ISP server downtime, modem going idle, or there being a
problem with the radio statio
I have used the Boom as an alarm reliably for just over a year. The
audio stream is set to a URL of the local NPR station. This recently
started failing, but I can watch the Boom alarm trigger, then connect,
so I believe it is the stream that fails. Of course, the Boom can't
detect this failure.
One more suggestion in terms of alarm reliability - make sure the sound
you choose for your alarm is a local file on your server. I originally
used something from the "Sounds and Effects" menu, and my alarm was
reliable ~80%. I turns out these sounds are actually hosted on
MySqueezebox.com (I be

used the alarm, even though mine has been in my bedroom since I got it
nearly 3 years ago.

The Booms alarm in my opinion is much more unreliable.
Sure - if everything is ok it will sound an alarm (as will the Radio),
but if something is wrong (server connection or stream) it will
silently fail, where the Radio has a much better fallback mechanism.

The annoying fallback alarm is easily replaced. Use WinSCP or ssh to
login to the Radio, and replace the file

I'm using a wireless setup with BBC Radio 2 in the UK as my alarm. It's
been very reliable on the whole save two issues...
1. SBS is running as a WHS app on my WHS 24/7 and even though the
option to start SBS when the physical server starts this always fails
after a windows update that requires

using the radio and then the problem was due to a power cut in the

You have every prerequisite to have a reliable alarm.
Report back if you get into trouble (which I don't expect) and we can
analyze the logs to find the causes.

Still have your old alarm clock? Set it 5 minutes after the radio alarm
and don't worry about it. You'll know soon enough how reliable the
Radio is.

I just bought the Squeezebox Radio to use as my primary alarm. Having
came on here to do a bit of reading up about it I'm now panicing
because everyone is recommending to NOT rely on this as an alarm (even
though thats what it's advertised as).
I'm hoping in my case it should be reliable but can
