I've been to Tallinn and Helsinki, but didn't ride a bike in either. If I
recall correctly, vehicles are prohibited inside the Old Town section of
Tallinn (a beautiful preserved/restored medieval city, with cobblestone
streets, castles, towers, the whole bit) but I did see some bike tours
Gus is magical on rough stuff, loaded or unloaded, from the untamed MUP to
washboarded dirt road, to 4x4 roads that make you wonder how anything with four
wheels makes it until you realize it's on three wheels much of the time, to
singletrack that flows and swoops, then plunges into forest
I own a 46 Clem L (with the 26" wheels) and a small proto Gus (TIG welded
but still 650b wheels). I'd argue there are significant differences between
them, with my advocating for the GBW if you have the budget and if you plan
to use it for off road. Deacon Patrick's experiences
Yowza! That's an amazing party train you've got there. Camping done right.

Hi everyone,
I’m planning a trip to Latvia, Estonia, and Finland in a few weeks. I’ve
never been to that neighborhood of the world, so I have decided to buy a
bicycle once I’m there and ride from Riga, Tallinn, to Helsinki.
Have any of you folks been there, and can you give me any pointers?
Oh, Mark, I remember you being deeply, madly in love with your Clementine. I
don’t remember that there was much you would have changed about it, if
anything. With that kind of love, it’s hard to see you without a Clementine in
your future. And the bonus is that you can have it SOON. Do you like
I have a bunch of the parts from my Clementine. I am wavering between
getting another Clem L frame and fork and getting one of the Hillies. Other
than taking a bigger tire and the construction method and the tubing
arrangement on top, I wonder how much difference there will be. I would not

I agree that the Clems are the best Riv deal ever, no compromises either.
I was providing justification for the more expensive bike because you wrote:

I don't recall exactly which Ultegra 10-speed chain we used. Both should
work fine - we've had problems only with a few chains from third-party
makers.

Noted! In my situation I don't have an option to replace a car with a bike.
I live the farm life respectably far from the city. I am lucky in that I

The frame and fork for the Hillibikes will be $1600 last I heard. It costs
on average $8,500 per year to own and operate a car. If you have two cars,
get rid of one, buy a Hillibike and spruce it up nice and start a little
savings account. If you have one car, cut out as many trips as you can.

Thanks! If that is the case then it will be more expensive then the Clem
stuff but should be on par with the lugged Taiwan stuff. Personally I
think they should aim to have more in the Clem/Roadini price range but this
hopefully won't be too far out there.

Super excited to land a Gus when they are ready. So worth the wait for
something slightly different and perfect for the non-touring non road, non
gravel riding I do. Like the other MIT offerings I would assume a sub $2000
price tag for a beautifully filleted frame. Setting my pennies aside
GBW and variants are made by a fellow in Taiwan. There was initially talk of
two versions, TIGed and fillet brazed, but now I believe they will all be
fillet bikes.

Actually it sounds like they are USA made so they will be way more
expensive. Seems an odd choice for a bike they are pushing to be a bike
for everyone with a brochure to explain that.

Just adding an update to this thread. A couple of things. Through the
spring I just continued to ramble in my Vans and 510 Aescents. Turns out
510 is making the Aescent again although I refrained from getting a pair. I
was very curious about Bedrock Sandals and picked up a pair a while back at
Yeah I have been on the lookout for a Clem L too but am wondering about
maybe just getting the hilly bike when the preorder comes up (which sounds
soon). Are they going to be similarly priced to the clems? It's partially
tig welded like the Clems. If so that will be the direction I go if I

Unfortunately, perhaps, it doesn't sound that cryptic to me. I am still
debating between getting another Clementine or going in for a Hillibike. I
do hope the Longbolts/Slugstone/Willsens get made. I do hope Rivendell
finds a way to keep going, even after I get what will almost certainly be

Any selling a Nitto 32f or similiar front rack that will work with a Quick Beam
with mid fork mounts? Also looking for medium Wald basket.
