Doh. Got busy for a few days. Probably for the better. I’ll just roll along
with more stem showing... :-)

Curtis, thanks for the affirmation on the Bantam; I’m really excited!
Doug, the other nice thing about the app is you can track mileage for multiple
bikes. Useful for when you buy that Clem! :)
All the best,

My goals are simple: get into mountain biking in the spring and summer, commute
by bike more and do at least two s24o in 2020.

(Weth) I will use that phone app, it will be easier and I really don’t want an
odometer on my bicycle. One more goal for 2020 is to buy a Clem L.

Great post.
Nothing out of the ordinary here. Keep up the 2500 mi/year average which
is earned via commuting and the pure enjoyment of riding a bicycle.
To Erl in Kensington, MD. The Bantam is an excellent choice for a custom
bicycle. I have not ridden another bicycle since getting my 68 cm Ba

Hey Grady! Where in Colorado? I'm on Pikes Peak (Green Mountain Falls, to
be exact). Feel free to email me direct if you want to ride sometime.

The custom sounds amazing! I have pondered why the Compass/RH centerpulls
aren't used on any of the caliper-brake Rivendells. I understand the desire
to avoid rare / single source parts but the R Herse brakes are truly the
best of all worlds, unless you're heavily loaded / riding a tandem.

I bought two new Rivendells this fall, so my 2020 goal is to not buy any
more bikes and ride the heck out of these new ones! :D
My mileage goal is 3600 km, which is a monthly average I had been keeping

A great topic!
My goal this year was to rider farther than last year. I achieved that by
riding more than 3300 miles mostly commuting.
Goals for this year include breaking that record and fitting in a few more
overnights and a multi day tour. I also have a Bantam custom in the pipeline

I'm not positive, George, but I believe these are unique from the
subcategory of "alpine touring" skis, referring to themselves as skishoes
or specifically Altai, which appears to be a subcategory of one at the
moment. Grin.

I don't agree that stem shifters are the boss. I have a gas pipe 80s
Nishiki with them and I find them awkward. If I rode the bike more, I
would replace them with barcons.

I vigorously approve of thumb shifters on the quill stem. I’m having fun
debating with myself which one should be mounted higher. One hand shifts might
be easier with the left on the bottom, but maybe on top.

Gotta agree v-brakes aren't the prettiest things. Which is why I'm getting
polished Pauls on my custom, all you'll see is shine!

On the question of V-brakes vs. Centerpulls, in my opinion V-brakes are:
1. Just too ugly. A very subjective thing.
2. Very hard to combine with wide/tall tires and fenders.
So I am probably not a customer for the Charlie H Gallop. I ride drop bars
on road bikes.
I have two bikes with V-
I tried the riser Jones on my hunqa and combined with the VO 31.8 Cigne stem
they felt way too high for me, so I ended up switching to regular Jones bar
which are great!
Make sure you balance stem and Handlebar combo to end up at the desired height.

I'm also considering the riser Jones bars for one of my bikes.
