I rode down the Pacific coast about a decade ago, and now live in Sacramento. I'd definitely prefer to hit the coast in the north (even follow the Columbia to the coast?) or cross the Sierra near Tahoe, rather than coming down the Central Valley. Other than that, not a lot to add. Are you

I often shop by bike at an Albertson's precisely 1/4 mile door to door by bike, not merely because the rt is perhaps 3 minutes shorter (it's only .15 mile by foot if I cut across the fitness center parking lot) but because it's easier to carry 30 lbs home in panniers than by hand, even for .15

I think you were smart waiting for the right size. I was lucky enough to try Leah's husband's (now son's) Clem H and I thought it rode a lot like my Appaloosa, just no lugs. Like you, I'd rather be mid size than on the cusp, although if I had to choose, I'd rather be on the low PBH end, like

I don't do too many grocery runs by bike anymore, since I can go to a selection of stores within 1/2 mile, so a walk with backpack is fine. Still, I'm set up like Carolyn, with basket on rack and panniers if I need more space. I found that I don't like to be too unequal with weight when

I've had this same bag for a few years now, and I've come to really love it. It's now my go-to handlebar bag for everyday riding. I use it across a couple of different bikes. Now, I'm not sure how practical it is as a fanny pack, but I'll occasionally take it off the bike and sling it over my
