Flippin' heck, that is one wild build! Any idea on minimum saddle height
and max tire size?

I'm guessing the only safe way to do this is to change the size of the
hole. Even if you can get the 26 bars on a 25.4 stem you end up
compromising the integrity of both pieces, no?

Regarding Gallup status: According to Will's Friday email, there a a few
painted samples in the Appaloosa shipment that is due to arrive any day
now. I'm excited to see what they did!

Bones, that 27 looks great! My only qualms would be that it puts the weight
farther forward than a Mark's or 32f. I'm running a Mark's on a different
bike and actually drilled a hole in the diving board so I could sit it as
far back as possible. I'm a bit anal about the weigh being as low and
Thanks for the solid feedback everyone. My plan to carry any significant
weight is limited to the occasional grocery run. It sounds like it would
probably make more sense to run a rear rack and a big pannier or two for
that purpose. I still want a front basket for small loads and it sounds
Looking for feedback on what front racks people are using or have used on
their Appaloosa. I am leaning towards a 32F for two reasons; I like that I
can throw on a big Wald basket and I don't have to worry about overloading
it, plus I can attach a dynamo light to the front and lessen my wheel
This is very timely for me since I just bought a 57 Appaloosa from Chris a
few days ago (possibly the last one available anywhere.) I'm a long time
Riv customer but this is my first Riv bike. Maybe we are seeing a cultural
change in how people use bikes in this country? We can only hope I
Not an answer to the question you are asking, but word from Will is it’s
essentially the same tube set as the Appaloosa. I’m guessing that would be
a medium duty tube set by Riv standards.

Bill, you just blew my mind. Being someone who doesn't ride "off road" I
had never considered the potentialy immense benefits of a light front end.
Thank you for the enlightenment!

Nice one! If I'm ever lucky enough to find a 60cm Ebisu I might actually
crap my pants.

Isn't that the truth, Joe! I find bottom brackets slightly tedious.
Headsets though often take several rides before I get them just right.

What Ray said, if the problem is a loose headset the fork and handlebars
should be acting as a solid unit and the movement is coming from the head
tube/headset.
Theoretically either REI or your pro shop should be able to fix this issue
easily. The problem is we don't know which one is going to
"In progress" looks pretty ready for action to me. Maybe it could use some
more gear range? Also, is that a hand knitted sweater?

A lot has to do with how high your bars are and what kind of riding your
doing, in my experience. The higher the bar the more likely it is to be
tilted. Tilt can really be a benefit off pavement, especially bumpy
descents.

I'm not sure where all you have listed it but there are a lot more people
shopping for Rivendells than just the folks on this forum. I would try
other bike forums as well as ebay. I know ebay takes a big cut, but it's
also the biggest audience and Rivendells don't usually last a long time.
The last time Will mentioned it in an email (December maybe) this batch of
Appaloosa is the same dark orange, as well as the new "mermaid" aka
"blilver". I'm planning on an orange Appaloosa unless I decide not to wait
and grab a green Platypus when they arrive.

Will called attention to the fact that the new "bilver" looked green to his
eye. He said one of the other staffers (I forget who) called it mermaid,
which seems more appropriate to me. I am basing my judgment on the color
samples from the email and Platypus page. The lighting is definitely not
looks too clean, but it's super fast and I find it easy enough to use at
first glance.
Thank you for all the work that has gone into this. I think it's going to
make my experiences on your sight so much more enjoyable.

Perfectly stated, Ben! I have a Lightningbolt Disc in large part because I
wanted to support a small company that was disrupting the bike industry,
but I was also curious about low trail. I plan to buy an Appaloosa in the
next batch in a large part because of BRF, and secondly because I don't
