I would recommend the Velo Orange 'Grand Cru' thumbie mounts. They're really solid and easy to adjust (hinged), they also match the finish of the silver shifters very well. I'm going to put a set on my Jones Plus. Have had that on my Sam H. for the entire 2 years, great setup for an

I like bar ends better and honestly prefer stem shifters over thumbies on drop bars. They look better and I feel the thumbies take up too much of the bar for me. On Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 12:41:02 PM UTC-6, N. Llama wrote: Speaking of bar ends vs Thumbies, what are people's thoughts

I have run both on drop bars. I ran the thumbies up top, close to the stem. Thumbies work well and they are protected from falls. At the time I also ran interrupter levers. I didn't bang my knee on the shifters and it worked well. I prefer the bar end shifters just a smidge. They are quicker

Speaking of bar ends vs Thumbies, what are people's thoughts on the two for drop bars? I'm reluctantly switching from downtube shifters on my touring bike (not stable enough fully loaded and going fast on the highway) and have had the idea of running thumbies instead of bar ends since I have

Thank you everyone for your info opinions. You've all been a big help. It looks like reversed Thumbies under the brake levers might be the way to go with the Ergons. And thanks for pointing out the GC-1's, I had forgotten about those, and they look near perfect for the Alba's. It's also good

I've tried both and have come to prefer the thumbies-- the bar ends are great, but they kept getting bumped, especially on Alba bars with the extreme swept-back grip area. The thumbies never get bumped and I have no tactile issues operating them with my hands on the grips Anton On

I switched to upright bars to alleviate nerve issues after decades with drops, and it's worked well. The Ergons are really nice and I use Paul's thumbies with the levers from my drop bar ends. The original Ergons are meant for flat or slightly swept back bars. I see they now have a version

I would use a thumbie for the front DR and bar end for the rear. When I lay my bike down on the non-drive side, it often likes to shift as it get's bumped. Of course I'm still debating whether to keep the front DR at all. With abandon, Patrick On Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 9:56:10 AM
