It is encouraging to hear a call like that. There is a difference between
folks who see the bike as simply "nice", and those who seem to understand,
appreciate, and value the same things we do. I think it is more than
validation. I think it is "connection".
Hey, nice Riv, LeRoy!

sightings are rare here in baltimore, too--my first recognition was a bit
less formal, but definitely smile-inducing: i, atop my 67cm homer,
approached a cross-country-ready atlantis and gave two friendly rings of my
brass bell. he struck his dinger, and we two strangers made melodious bell

I ride in Berkeley and all of the East Bay... it's not uncommon to get
chuffed several times each day. And as well, to hand out chuffs to fellow
Riv riders I see. We are part of a not-so-secret not-so-subterranean
society, that recognizes and embraces, through use, ownership, and
promotion, the

Camping out in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeast Arizona this weekend.
Riding around mostly. Onion Saddle. Massai Point. I was the only camper in
Pinery Canyon. Sunday morning I hear an unexpected sound coming up the
road. A bike tourer. Fully loaded. On a Trek 520. He rides by my camp and
I got one recently from a mailman doing his rounds.

I have had mixed comments:

Sadly, I missed a chance to "nice bike" someone last weekend :-( Someone
riding the other way, I noticed the canvas looking handlebar bag first,
then what looked like moustache bars and that the rider may have been
female(?) but then we'd passed each other. I gotta be quicker on the

Many years ago, I did a MS ride on Martha’s Vinyard on my then new All’rounder.
The entire field of riders were on mid to upper level aluminum or carbon Treks,

hysteria years.) As we were pulling in to one of the rest areas
Runner I passed as I stumped up the trail on my Hunqabeam: “Nice bike! What is

with a top tube like that.”

It's car-centric here, and it's rare I get a compliment that isn't "nice beach
cruiser" or "How do you get up the hill with no gears?" in regards to my Betty
Foy. But yesterday I had her in for repairs and the owner of the shop was
complimenting me on my bike and telling me what a pleasure it wa
Around here in this little corner of O-Hi-O there are few cyclists. I once
saw another cyclist about a month I go, thought I do see banana peels on
the side of the road more often, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. I guess
tossing the peel into the grass must just be too laborious for the poor

Also, being one who lives in a very car-centric part of the U.S., bicycle

I just got my first compliment on my Roadini after less than 10 rides on

Received a compliment yesterday on my just rebuilt sage green SamH. Stopped

Ummm... I'd be careful about handing out "chuffs"! ;-)
