This is the most-likely-to-sell size, and my understanding is they need 10
sales to create enough cash for the project. Not my size and I just bought a
Clem, but if I were one of the fence-sitters I'd get off that fence.

Well, at this particular moment in time, only one more than half have been
spoken for, and they're only giving it 6 more days to see if they can sell
the rest. Probably a few people on the fence like you, so it might work
out, but the deal was supposed to be that those truly interested would
I would probably throw down the greenbacks, but the timing is just a little
off for me. I liked pretty much everything except the wheel size (seems a
stretch for the frame size) and the caliper brakes, but neither of those was a
deal breaker for me, in fact they interested me in their own way,
I keep struggling with wanting to avoid talking about this bike, to keep
from generating interest and competition. But now, I guess there's a need
to make sure enough people understand and buy this first model before the
20th, for the larger version that *I* need and want to even become a
Wasnt the proto a bigger frame than 50cm?

Eric,
I do not think it is intended to "bring Riv to the masses" -- at 10 or so
per size it is seriously low volume. It is a way to make some fun,
moderately priced bikes that could also utilize existing fork stocks.

The bike rides great. I test-rode it at Riv last week, and Grant put the seat
up high for me, and even with my 93 cm PBH, it felt good.

To me it looks like the second tube on a klunker. Which isn't particularly
weird to my eye, but I like it.

Still trying to get my head around the funkatube. I think maybe that's
where the weirdness lies. But lots of times things look better to me in
person than in pictures.

Well, the Surly comment comes from a Riv comment related to Clems, which are a
little cheaper. I was speaking about cheaper semi-TIGed Rivendelld in general,
in that I like the idea.

It's still about 2x the cost of a Surly, so it's not exactly going to bring
Riv to the masses.

I disagree. I'm not a geometry expert by any means, but I can't think of
any stock bike so... elongated. A 63cm virtual top tube and 485 mm
chainstays on a what is essentially a med to med/large bike? I haven't seen
any other specs beside that and the seat tube (50cm) but at first glance it
I guess I'm used to it already, but I have a semi-TIGed CLEM so I've had plenty
of experience with them. I've always been a big proponent of this - the
possibility was floated by Grant when Riv first started - but got no traction
with it the last time I brought it up 7-or-so years ago. I like
Yeah, it is kinda weird. It's also weird to me how very un-weird the frame
is as a whole, given how much Grant played up the weirdness these frames
would be. I was expecting something really...well...weird. What came out
feels like a pretty safe frame to me. This just reminds me of a prettier
I like the forkbut it sure feels a bit weird to see a tigged Riv. Not a
criticism , just an observation

Not my size, which is probably good considering my recent transaction with the
IRS. Ack!

The highlight is they will take your money for a Medium Sized Rosco Bubbe
now. 10 offered, 9 remain.

Since you brought it up, I signed up for the new bike blog out of curiosity
but if I had the funds, I would seriously consider ordering the first
design. It's the right size and I like the design details mentioned in the
most recent update. The color would just be a nice bonus since I'm
