What assertion is all this very intriguing rebuttal responding to? I

The good deacon is correct. Let’s keep it to bikes and bikey things here as per
the list rules.

you'll be Barbara Striesand in no time.

I stopped tracking mileage a few years ago but I do track TSS and some
power data when and if I'm actually training. For that I use TrainerRoad
which recently included a nice calendar feature that combines outside rides
with your trainer riding. Since they did that it is a one stop shop for me
I think we can all agree that the calendar was amazing regardless of political
preference or association. What type of amazing is up to you!

I just use a Garmin GPS and have a mount for it on each bike. I upload the
rides to Garmin Connect and on the Connect website I can see weekly and
monthly distances. If you don't want any of the mapping capabilities they
sell a fairly cheap unit that just functions as a bike computer (Garmin

I'll chime in regarding my mileage tracking...I use a combo of gaiagps and
google maps for route planning if its just a "bumbling around" ride or my
regular commute (no need to record those). However, I'll use a garmin watch
when I'm training to get a better idea of distance, pace, grades, etc.

Given the amount of political reference/underpinning/agreement/disagreement
required to understand this statement, is this something best left for

Since I care more about the route than the stats, I find ridewithgps to be
much more useful for navigating and research. I hate that strava forces
you to sign in just to see someone's route, and the map views are pretty
pathetic.

After reading reviews in the Apple App store I’ve concluded Ride Report would
not provide the kind of accuracy I want and get from Strava. I’m getting the

I don’t know what “Ride Report” is.
I would be interested in or appreciate a link, an elaboration, or a “haha

I agree with Justin. I get the Strava criticisms, but I don't think any of
that applies to anyone here. I use strava to track miles. I suppose
ridewithgps does the same but i've been using strava for years and don't
want to lose that data. The only thing I can think of that validates

I always intended for Ride Report sort of be the anti-Strava, so give it a shot
if you are not into chasing KOMs. It *does* have a Lugged Steel Bonus Trophy,
however...

You've identified some of the criticisms, many of which I share. There are
a myriad of cyclists out there, and would dare say that each person has
their own reasons for riding. Mine is to ride as much as I am able, and
not to fret much about how I compare to those younger, fatter, fitter or
I'm not certain which precise point Steven was making, but I've spoken with
more than one cyclist who blames Strava for sensationalizing the KOM.
There are multiple stories out there of cyclists that kill themselves on a
downhill because they were going for a KOM. I know some people think

I get a kick out of Strava. My Wahoo Elemnt automatically uploads my rides to
Strava and Ride with GPS, and Strava occasionally emails to let me know that I
set a personal record on such-and-such segment of roadway. I’m usually

Weird, I use Strava and have never once been forced into a race,
competition or challenge! I have ridden and run and walked and hiked slower
than before, faster than before and just the same. I enjoy the analysis it
gives me and lets me know my general fitness level. I have, however, nev

+1 on the Wahoo Element although I personally stay away from Strava and use
Ride with GPS. If you use Strava, you are buying into the whole
competition thing, like it or not, which is not my bag. Ride with GPS does
the same, I think, and permits your to check out other rides in your area
or,
I use Strava on the phone for 'non-serious' rides. I use a Wahoo Elemnt
for 'serious' stuff, which syncs to Strava. Wahoo also seamlessly
integrates over to Ride With GPS.
So, for commute miles, I touch one button on my phone and it records my
mileage. For a route where I need directions,
I have a Garmin 520 which I use with Strava. It's one of the few social
media platforms I enjoy. I use the 520 for navigation with Strava's route
mapping function and then use Strava to remember my rides. I really enjoy
being able to go back and look at unique, memorable rides I did. I rode
Garmin Edge 820. Goes from bike to bike easy and I don't have to change any
settings. The downside is, it's expensive and has way more features than I
will ever use.
