My brother-in-law had a bilateral knee replacement (i.e. both knees at
once) about ten years ago. He's given up running (he was previously a
pretty good marathon runner, probably the reason why both knees were shot),
but he can still cycle without problem. He and my sister are presently
cycling
Richard, I had a total knee replacement 77 days ago (but who's counting?),
so I can't comment on the long-term just yet.

For me, it's not the riding. It's the mounting and dismounting that requir
I had TKA a couple of years back and was back on a bike in about a month.
Started very slow, low miles on flat ground. I was up to 15 miles fairly
quickly. I know that the miles on the bike before surgery really was of
help post surgery. Everyone is different so consult with your surgeon and
I'm a PT with about 16 years experience. I treat many folks post-op single
or double knee replacement. You should get back to cycling without concern
or restriction in 3-4 months (you can push it earlier, but most folks find
that the resulting inflammation is not worth it).
A couple of points,
Rode 12 easy, bike path miles 3 weeks post surgery. Maybe should've given
it another week.
