Apologies for my late arrival to this topic. I have just been dealing with
similar issues (stinosis in the C6-7) and have been off the bike for a few
weeks. Still in physical therapy and just starting to ride again in a
limited fashion while being ever so mindful of my position and posture on

Bosco's and Albas have kept me riding also...My Bosco's are only a few
weeks old, so I'm still like a kid at Christmas in anticipation of every
ride..I don't ride with mittens, so can't help you there.

The mitten clearance: if my hands are in position just forward of the brake
levers, resting almost at the bend, the brake cable passes fairly close to the
bar between the first and second bend. Not a problem with bare hands but with
thick mittens you've gotta kind of work to slot them in between

Your experience mimics mine, as I posted on the older thread. Until I
started riding upright, I seriously thought I'd have to give up road
cycling.
Not sure what you mean by brake-cable-mitten space, but just in case, I
found the Bosco riding experience to be even better with reverse brake
