Tires just aren't all that expensive. If you shop around online, end
of season, etc you can get pretty decent deals on mass market tires
like Schwalbe and Panaracer. Hetres and Riv tires maybe not so much.
I guess there are some people here who do serious annual mileage, so
cost might be an issue
On a related note, Rawland Cycles is working with Kirk Pacenti to
produce a Mini-Moto. This will be a 650b 43c knobbie. It's a
particularly exciting development considering that many frames won't
fit the wider 2.0 650b Quasi-Moto. They are need preorders for 300
tires via the Rawland site.
To get back to this idea - guess it depends on the tire and use. I
got rid of a pair of tires after 50 miles, one flat and one other
serious cut in the casing.
Otherwise, generally run tires until I start getting flats or I feel
it's time to change. Like not wanting to commute in the dark and
This was what I was waiting for for a long time. If these could have
come out a couple years ago, I'd still have my Bleriot!

Maybe another interesting question:
How many people buying a particular type of tire does it take before
you hit the bulk-discount price?
At least for the Grand Bois, Bicycle Quarterly is offering about 10%

Tires have a shelf life. I wouldn't get too many years ahead of
myself.
My guess is any discount would be on identical tires or perhaps a mix
of sizes of the same tire. On the Riv rides I've been on, everyone
has their own idea of the best tire, with little agreement. Now, if
we could just get
