i also put a backwheel fender on the front wheel, technically it's
fine altough i like the hammered fenders better.

700x35 is not the upper limit for 700x50 fenders, but it depends on
the bike. I have used the 700x50 Berthouds with 700x50 Big Apples on
my Atlantis. Of course, there was some custom "fitting" involved...

Lovely lines, Mike.
Hmm...thinking I might want to do something similar on mine.

I ended up going with Berthouds (50s). I was able to get them from a
local shop, pre-drilled, and was familiar with the installation
process from previously putting a pair on my Rambouillet. They went on
fine and look great. I do need to clean up the stays a bit where I cut
them.

But VO doesn't offer their own hammered model... yet.

Someone, I don't know if it is Honjo or not; perhaps Jan Heine of Bicycle
Quarterly, recommends thick leather washers between metal fender and frame.
I cut my own, but VO does sell them. The recommender claims that they will
reduce vibration and thus fatigue, and they also (I suppose, since I've ha
I had Honjos on the Bleriot long before I got the front rack. No
front fender vibration issues that I recall. The rear fender did have
an vibration issue in the fender bridge piece, but I stuffed a piece
of old inner tube in there and it stopped.

I have the standard SKS P45s and they don't provide adequete coverage

Thanks for the responses. I have a feeling I'll go with the Honjos.
I've kinda always wanted them. I'm gonna wait a little while to order
them as I'm going out o
Just wondering which SKS fenders you have? Some of the ones I've seen
out there are quite a bit longer than others.

That Berthouds are more apt to dent than Honjos arguably supports that
Berthouds are more rigid and thus less apt to vibrate. Dents happen

Funny. Believe it or not, I do know how to install fenders. I

When I put Berthouds on my Ram I was surprised at how easy they were
to install. They were actually easier to install than SKS.
I think the Berthouds tend to be a little sturdier. And they're
certainly cheaper. But man, those Honjos look nice...

I have had bad luck with Honjos. One set was installed by a well
regarded custom builder. The other by one of Chicago's better local
bike shops. In both cases, relatively minor mishaps wound up knocking
the fender out of line and I was never able to get them to work
properly afterwards.
I have
The 559 45 mm Honjos I have are at least as stiff as the Berthouds I used
before. In my experience -- Honjos, Berthouds, Velo Orange metals, all the
plastics -- the metal ones, properly mounted, vibrate less than the plastic
ones.

I found on my AHH with 45mm Bertoud aluminum fenders that there was an
occasional vibration between the front fender and the Silver brake. A small
piece of inner tube glued I used Barge cement) to the top of the fender at the
contact point solved the issue nicely and you can't even see it.
