I can peg my pants riding fixed while strapped into Campy Victory pedals. I’ve
ridden with clips or clipless more than half my riding life. Meh.
I tried it again recently with Bruce Gordon titanium half-clips and White
Industries platform pedals. Nicest pedals in the world. Not for me.

Yea, yea. But if you havent't tried it foolish to knock it. There is an obvious
difference in the ride. But maybe you've tried and decided it's not for you. I
don't know.

Shrug. Sigh. Grin.
Though I quote meself: “Conventional wisdom so often thinks more of itself than
it ought. Grin.”
Technically, I have foot retention: ankle above, spikes below. Grin.
With abandon,

Love your bike, love your bloghate that you don't use foot retention. Seems
less pure somehow. To each their own :)

John, the rear pockets on the Reigns are not in contact with the saddle for me
(being up and outward), and that’s where I like my wallet and phone. In the
front or cargo pockets those weightly items are annoying as every motion has
them moving.

I like wool longjohns and musa long pants for winter.
For 20+ miles, ibex tights with Boure windstopper tight over that.
I find no need fir knickers. Beliw 70 i want full leg coverage.
For 70f and warmer, walmart fruit o theloom cotton sweat shorts are super comfy.
But anything over 10 miles in
A voice to the contrary: I may get custom riding pants made, and if I do,
mine will have rear pockets, zippered or buttoned, and no side pockets. I
can put a modest bunch of keys in a rear pocket, where they will be wholly
unobtrusive while I ride; but if I put anything more than a
Other than the small, zippered (not necessary and annoying) pockets, I’m happy
enough with the Compass. True enough I don’t need both a snap at the waist and
a buckle, but neither really bothers me. But the fabric is great, really light,
with some stretch, quick drying, and the cut is generous
John, the drawstring can be ignored or cut off, but it is sewn into the back,
so it can’t be removed. I wear a 1.25” belt with them that holds my knife in
the small of my back, so they stay put just fine. Grin. I had doubts about the
cargo pockets as well. They are a bit annoying if my hand
Glad you found some knicks.
I was aiming to order some, but was concerned they might be too busy, what
with the internal drawcord, cargo pockets I won't use and such. Do you find
them easy enough to get on with now that you've had some time to access?
And, do they stay put and not shift around
Good to know about the Reigns; definitely at the top of my list.
Am currently parsing my daughter's summer schedule; possible brief, summer
Great Books program at my alma mater in So Cal, then the Rocky Mountain
Orthodox Youth Camp. But I'll holler long before knocking at your door.
On Mon,
Ride sounds great, Patrick! Holler when ready.
The Reign knickers did surprisingly well in the 14˚F in frozen, windy fog to
35˚ and sunny in Woodland Park, back down through snow, fog, and wind in the
20’s grocery run this morning. No additional under-layer save for the added
possum wool sock
I hope, God willing, to take my daughter up to the Rocky Mountain Orthodox
Youth Camp again this summer. Perhaps I'll invite myself to annoy you with
my presence for another Rampart Reservoir Ride -- if I can keep from
falling over into the boulders that alone kept me from falling further down
Aye, I’m a wimp. I ride the 71” most of the time, shifting to the 57” for some
of the trails. So, if you remember when we rode Rampart Reservoir, the road up
to Rainbow Gulch and down through most of the trail is 71”, then the 57” for
steeper bit of the trail, then back to 71” for the climb out
Ach, 57", is that all? I thought you climbed Pike's Peak in a 48 X 19 like
Coppi is reported to have done. (Well, Coppi didn't climb Pike's Peak, but
you know what I mean.)
Thanks re the Reigns. Must investigate; the price is certainly good. I
don't want them for warm weather.
Speaking of low
I kneww you kment knees. Grin.
44 x 17/21 equal 71” and 57”.
Yes, for me, the Reign knickers are comfortable at 30˚F with wind. They are
great at blocking the wind, which is why I wonder about their summer
performance. However, they are still thinish nylon (and less stiff than Riv’s
nylon

What gear does that 44 t give you? You are turning into a fixed gear
climbing demon.
Am I correct in understanding that the Reign knickers are comfortable at
30*F with high winds? Second question: are they long enough to cinch under
your kneww without binding at top dead center of the pedal
In which I do it all wrong and don’t care. Well, actually I do care, because I
prefer to do it all wrong, at least in this case, though never for the sake of
doing it wrong, but because conventional wisdom so often thinks more of itself
than it ought. Grin. With photos, of course.
