Today was 35 degrees and windy. I had an 11 mile loop on about 5 miles of dirt
and 6 miles of paved on my Quickbeam with Schwalbe Marathon Winter 35mm tires.
On a windy day I try to do the dirt with the wind to my back. Well I guessed
wrong today. The dirt road follows the Connecticut River
Aha! The WTF ride! I had one on Tuesday evening. I was late getting out the
door after 4 pm, sunset at 530, cloudy day, uneven and sand-patch strewn
dirt roads. Managed 3.41M northbound before I was stopped at a huge sandpit
where a gully washer or arroyo buster had flooded the (now merely damp)

Did you ever have a ride that started so screwed up that you're wondering
wtf I am doing here. Well, my wife and I went on our club ride, but the
start location's gate was closed. OK no big deal, we'll just drive to the
next parking lot and meet everybody. No dice. Next we park at another lot
I won't!

Taken from aboard an all-steel, friction-shifting road bike as I sat on a

Well the temperatures soared into the 50's today so I had no choice but to go
ride. I figured out the wind was out of the southwest and took off into it.
Now the first 14 miles were into ghosting 25mph winds but other than making me
slow it wasn't to bad. (just noisy) So I found side loops

Very nice pictures! I've always wanted to ride that bridge but have never
figured out how to get there from Palo Alto.

It had been way too long since I'd been out to Mormon Emigrant Trail, so I
packed up the Riv Road this morning and headed for the mountains. An hour
later, I was at Jenkinson Lake, ready to start the climb, which is basically
about 28 miles of almost uninterrupted uphill. Nothing super steep,
Having a GREAT time in the City of Roses. Yesterday was mountain bike
racing where I got to see and cheer on Beth H. HUGE weekly races, at least
by my standards. Tons of families with kids out there. Lots of women
racing, many, many, many kids out there. Everyone was really nice, no

So finally I woke up to a nice sunny day here in Portland. Seems like
it's taken forever for summer to start here. Cyclotourist (David E.)
is up visiting friends with his son Jake and we were able to arrange a
ride through Forest Park. Took off from my house in N. Portland across
the St Johns Bridg

longish ride today. I'm working tomorrow and Monday I'm having dental
surgery and will be taking it easy Tue and Wed, then back to work. So
yeah, today was really my only chance for an all day ride. Most
importantly I got a hall
A nice 200k ride with my friend Kellen. We rode from North Portland
out to Ripplebrook Ranger Station. Basically a long out and back but
50 miles of it were on this beautiful stretch of road with minimal
traffic and following the Clackamas River. I was tired at the end but
no cramps or bonk. Seems
