Friends:
We have not one, but two jobs coming up in the near future requiring we
mount FW500 base plates 90 degrees rotated from the norm. In all my years I
have never had to do this and now it is twice. I am trying to wrap my head
around this.
I hate to have breakers actuate sideways
William,
You have the well deserved reputation of the go to guy for clean
equipment mounting solutions.
Isn't sideways breaker operation what you have in any panelboard/load
center? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Just my $0.02.
Best wishes with the install,

I personally like AND use the ONAN (CMM) commercial mobil units. Can be
configured 120 VAC @50 A. Fiberglass enclosure, QUITE 2800 RPM. Unlike the eco
gen you DO have to mount on a stand as the intake exhaust is from the bottom.
Using an OB inverter I use the Atikson start module. I use a

William,
Is there something wrong with having breakers actuate sideways? I've
never considered it to be a problem.
Thanks

If you plan to use Zep, I don't recommend you use microinverters. Module
removal for microinverter replacement is a huge pain. We had a few systems
with M190's on Canadian Solar Zep's and the M190 failures are causing us
nightmares. I guess with the vastly improved failure rate this is less of

Dear Wrenches,
We installed a PV system on a copper roof several years ago. We used brass
S5!-U clamps on standing seam and aluminum racking. We are now noticing
some discoloration at the drip-line below the modules. See photos here:
Hi Nik,
This is an interesting one. What is going on along the bottom edge of the
modules? Is that corrosion or lichen or bird poop remnants? The racking and
sides of the modules look fine. I suppose moisture might be collecting
along the bottom module lip and something is happening to the
Nik,
It's hard to tell from the photos, but are you seeing the same issue under the
bottom edges of the other rows of modules going up the roof slope? From the
images it looks like this is happening only along the very bottom row.
Is there enough spacing between the rows to allow water to drop
Nik,
Looks to me like there may be a major bird flyway between the dormers directly
over the bottom row of modules. A google search seems to confirm a correllation
between between bird droppings and copper roof staining. I agree with August,
this doesn't seem to be an issue caused by dissimilar
What I am getting is the birds are dumping on the modules too, which washes
off in the rains, dripping on the copper below, staining the roof from the
acidic nature of their droppings.

Wrenches,
Our Concorde distributor sent me this follow-up to an earlier
conversation we had had about float transition current. For others
who use these batteries, this is useful information, so I'm sharing
it here.
