Once again we the installers are “guinea pigs”. Lost opportunity costs born by
the installer believing that the components, we are selling & installing are
ready for prime time. Must be nice to have a “Tech” drive to Humboldt, we here
in Maine aren’t that lucky.

Any recommendations for a small 5 amp or less at 12v
24v to 12v dc to dc converter?
There are many inexpensive ones out there but just checking to see if anyone
has info on better ones: high efficiency and reliability

Samlex has worked well for me.
I also have a 48-24V Meanwell that has held up well in an exterior cabinet.

Consumers can buy a Sol-Ark prewired inverter from AltE (among other
brands). That is probably what this person is referring to - not buying
direct from Sol-Ark, but an online wholesaler. I see these kinds of
requests frequently. If Sol-Ark is doing direct sales, that would be a
strange decision.
a solar panel and a 12v deep cycle from Costco. Three year no questions
warranty. Hard to beat for reliability compared to the junk out there.

I have used several Meanwells and all have worked without fail. Watts in used
Meanwells in the step-down converters for their trackers years ago and I never
saw one of them fail either.
IMHO, no thanks to adding another battery and panel; this approach is simpler
and is maintenance free indefin
I’m with ya on that. These days, I can’t really be a testing ground... It’s
going to be especially hard to stay in business if there are direct selling
manufactures, or distributors for that matter. I saw this exact thing happen
to a close friend in the plumbing trade. End result wasn’t good
