OK any good data from outdoor tests showing energy produced by thin film
compared to crystalline in the same conditions would be most helpful.
Can anyone confirm that NERL tested Unisolar for long term degradation and
the results were not published. is this a myth?

HI Carl,
Hi Todd.
Thanks for this, but I think we need something more recent.
I have the Solar Shootout data from back in '98 when they gagged the
results.
Carl E.
is the attached file what you are looking for? if not... i think i can dig
up that solar shootout article from way back.
HI Carl,
I can't seem to be able to get that data off the site.
Maybe someone else can.
It is a main reason I bought the subscription, just to support their great
testing work.

Jay,
Are they doing a 'real world' test for each module over say 12 monts

Jay,
The short answer is no.
These are not real world tests of energy yield under 'normal' outdoor
conditions.
Photon are setting up field tests for 2013 in Germany and the middle East.
Then they will have some useful data.

First Solar was not performing to warranty within the first 2 years.
They supplied more modules, but not the additional land, racking, labor,
wiring, etc to make up for the low performance.

This link from Forbes explains that the decline in thin film is purely cost
and not performance related.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for that, yes, I have seen the setup you refer to and it is very
comprehensive, but I thought that your reference to the 151 modules was a
lab test at STC and not an outdoor test for energy yield.
Can you send the link to the outdoor test results please.
Many Thanks,

Hi there,
Thin film is still getting bad press after early production suffered
degradation issues way back in the 90s.
There is plenty of evidence that thin film produces at least 10% more energy
because it performs better

First Solar's thin film is definitely part of the industry's early onset
under performance problem.

compromise quality and this also reinforces my business practice to buy

article mentions two Spanish projects that were tested and the modules
had a 34% defect rate. I looked at the study (linked in the article)
and what they were talking about was thermographic defects - hot
