Is this an NFS partition? If this is just an ext2 partition, I would
suspect your drive is going out, you may wish to fsck it to see what kind
of errors that gives.

I have a file in a directory that can not be seen, but is causing problems
with accessing ANY file in the same directory:
[root@localhost /root]# rm /linux1/g1/kleen/car.jpg
rm: cannot remove `/linux1/g1/kleen/car.jpg': Input/output error
[root@localhost /root]# rm -- /linux1/g1/kleen/car.jpg
rm:
why don't you just use Acrobat under linux to display print pdf files?

I don't know how optimal, but this is mine:
optflags: i686 -O3 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 \
-march=pentiumpro -fomit-fram
what are the optimal settings to put in your rpmrc to rebuild rpms on a
686?

I am using redhat 6.1 and the ghostview program that comes with it. I
downloaded some pdf files that ghostview refuses to print. It prints
other pdf files (and ps files) without any problem. I downloaded these
same pdf files to windows 98 and was able to print them without any
trouble via acrobat
Hi, Vidiot,
Thanks for the continuing help on getting my fonts right. I have
another question. I tried to change my default xterm font to Verdana,
but it comes out looking like there's a space between each character,
making the xterm ridiculously wide. I notice that I don't have this
problem i

Depends on how your init was configured.
If you're talking about the stock RedHat (and most *nixen), runlevel 6
initiates a system reboot.
Look at /etc/rc.d/rc6.d/ as well as /etc/inttab.

thing is, I can even get an ip from my cable isp's dhcp server, but then

Runs faster because it does not have the extra SMP code overhead. SMP
and APM is bad juju, so probably was wisely not compiled in.

Interesting. The img kernel a) runs noticibly faster and b) powers my
machine off on halt!
Wonder why the Red Hat installer set the smp kernel as default in the
first place???

What you are looking for is IP Maquerading (also known as Network
Address Translation (NAT)). If you setup your DNS properly, then the
requests to the local http server will stay local, and if not, then they
will go outside (using IP Maquerading).
It is built into the default 6.1 kernel, but you
Hey , I have tried to update xfree86 from 3.3.5 to 3.3.6. My problem is
that I had to put an old video card in to get Linux running. How do I
upgrade to the new version of x and then put my new video card in. (rage

Could some one give me some details on what apps I would need to set up a
secure data link between several windows laptops to a 6.1 server over the
Internet? User friendly is a must and free would be a plus.

I want to give access to a printer on my linux box to an Apple imac
connected to the network.
To that end, I installed the netatalk RPM on the redhat 6.1 CD.
It does install itself and tries to bring itself up in the boot
process but it fails. Once booted the "getzones" program also times

Hi !
I don't doubt that this works, but are you mounting different filesystems
types, too ? I think that makes it become a problem coz there are no access
rules administrated by a vfat system, only if they are preset in the fstab.
My suggestion is one way to make it work.

I have had consistent lockups using Gnome. It doesn't seem to be as bad
using KDE. I downloaded and installed the latest Gnome packages from Red Hat
but I still get wierd behavior. The oddest is my Licq setup. If I start it
from the menu list, it starts and then dies immediately, if I start it fro
