That's a normal occurance.. send the message through the server and the
other party will eventually get it. No way around it, really. You'll
prolly find similar problems getting away messages, etc. It's moreso a
networking issue. Firewalls/gateways block a lot of direct connections

One thing that you might want to know is that AT&T (well, MediaOne or
RoadRunner or what ever it is in Minnesota right now) blocks port 80 and
25. So no HTTP or SMTP going over it.. but that can be worked around and
setup on 8080 orsomething else. It's intresting to note that they do not

I have just recently downloaded the iso's from
redhats ftp site and burned them onto a cd. Everything went ok, the cd burned
ok.
My problem is that when I try to boot from cd1 it
just does not detect that the cd is bootable. Has anyone else experienced this

It just works but it does vary from area to area as to how they've set it
up. Here in MN it was trivial back when they were MediaOne.

I had forgotten about the 5%.
A quick trip through /var/* revealed the presence of a number of large spool files
leftover from trying to get Star Office to cooperate with cups.
I then moved /var onto another partition.
Of course, the *real* solution is more drive space. ;-)

My employer uses the Nortel Contivity VPN Client for remote access over DSL.
I have an IP Tables firewall (using SmoothWall), but I cannot connect

Are you sure its the authentication that taking the time, or the
connection? If you were to telnet/ssh into the box, does it take many
seconds to get the login prompt? If this is the case, try adding an entry
to /etc/hosts for the machine that is trying to access the box.

Depends on what your trying to keep in tact. Cat file1 > file2 will
copy all contents but the file image and timestamp has changed. So if
your using any sort of original verification schemes you could detect a
