Help, please,
As a result of an unclean shutdown, I have some rogue files on my 7.2
installation, which are preventing a complete boot up.
Somehow I have files called "/dev/log" and "/var/loc" in a director in
/var/log.

Hmm. I had a similar monitor wake up problem; it only occurred when I
"upgraded" from RH8 to RH9. After warm-booting on several occasions, (I
realize that you would prefer not to do this), I decided that I should
try a 'clean install.' Result: Monitor 'wakes-up' just fine now.

xinetd has nothing to do with X windows. Changing the runlevel is all you
need to do.
Yes startx will start X windows from the prompt.

Hello,
Is there anything else I need to do besides changing the runlevel in
/etc/inittab from 5 to 3? What about "x"inetd? Can I continue to use
this or do I need to go back to inetd?
Also, after I change the inittab, by using startx, will that bring my
gnome desktop up?
TIA

I get the the below entries in my log on a periodic basis.
As you can see, the client ip never seems to be the same. The uid is always
anon. The password is always [EMAIL PROTECTED] Nothing is transfered.
Anyone know what is going on with this?
Other than turning off anon ftp, how could one set
I would say first get into the BIOS. If you have a BIOS that autodetects your
HD, try doing a new search for it. It looks like your HD has crashed. This is
why you have mount errors and no init found.
