I set up two remove linux boxes - (RH7) behind a firewall. One has been in
service since the release of RH7 - no problems (we will call this one box A).
The other is a brand new (yesterday) RH7 (was slackware) box. (Box B)
The firewall forwards telnet/ssh requests to box A. I can then te

Like most disagreements, there is truth on both sides. Microsoft didn't
invent any wheels - but they did bring wheels to the masses - that has value.
If Microsoft didn't do it, Steve Jobs may have. However, Microsoft was
clearly better at bringing to the masses than others.
This created
strict xhost + commands in the future.
Any help appreciated.

StarOffice (free at www.sun.com) does a good job of importing word docs also.

Thanks guys.
I looks like I have a hardware problem on my com1 (ttyS0) - I can't get any
other device to be recognized here also. I switched to com2 and away I go.
I was assumping the link was bad when the device itself looks to have a
problem.
Thanks again.

how can I get rid of these short of a shutdown?
Any hints, links, or resources would be appreciated.

I should have been more explicit. I understand how to have a static motd
displayed (of course one could edit the /etc/motd file to change the
message) - but that falls under the heading of useful linux tricks.
The slack box seems to dynamically pull quotes from a 'quote' server. I've

The motd is static (same on every login), the qotd if dynamic (changes with
each login).

Okay it's a useless thing to know, but I have two linux machines (slack and
RH). The slackware machine displays a qotd upon login. I didn't install the
slackware machine and can't figure out how to get the qotd going on the RH
machine.
Any clues??

Is it feasible to use Samba through a firewall while having an NT PDC

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but none-root users are unable to
change their passwords on a RH6.1 system. (sorry to change focus away from
7.0 for the moment).
When passwd is entered you get the old and new pass prompt. However, the
system complains that ANY new password entered is bas
