Does anybody know of a good explanation (tutorial, howto's,...) about
localisation problems under linux/redhat?

Hi,
Oh yeah, I also have this behaviour. I even bought more RAM because of that
:-).
The process in cause was one of the children of the X process. But I don't
think it really consumme all this memory. It looks for me more as a shared
memory pool.
Does anybody here has more information?

I'm suprised no-one has suggested using parted. The best way I've found
for using parted is run linux in single user mode, unmount the /var
filesystem and from the command-line run parted.
GNU Parted is a very nice tool but I don't remember it's possible to
decrease partition size. W

Maybe your system is not completely locked and you can still open another
login session with CTRL-ALT-F1...7. And then find the locked process with
"ps -eaf" and "kill"?
Every couple of days, my RH8 system locks up. I used to think it was
the
GNOME screensaver, so I disabled that, but
With RH8.0 I use the modem_light_applet which works just fine.
I don't think that the "case case" (Uppercase vs LowerCase) could be the
problem since I think "Name" parameters are just used for display only.
I'm very new to RH 8.0. I'm just now stepped up from the install list to
RH list.
Hi,

There was a thread yesterday about using up2date with pre-downloaded rpms
(very useful for poor 56k phone-modem users). However I tried all the
suggestions given but it didn't work.
Here's the problem:

Sorry to disturb but is this thread related to non-english characters

Because, I've that with RH8.0 french... At start-up/shutdown only but it's
not nice when I try to convince others of the beauty of linux.

Depends on your boot loader. If you have lilo, check your /etc/lilo.conf
file.

What is the output of "ifup ppp0" in the later case?
It's maybe a simple problem of access rights...
