Suppose I have the following hardware config.:
ide controller 1 - 2 hardisks 2- cdroms
ide controller 2 - 1 hard disk etc
Will Linux detect the second controller and hardware attached to it ?

I am thinking of adding 2 hard disks and control to access them
The controller is a Promise Ultra 66 and couple of 30 GB hard
disks
What is good controller for Linux at a fair price if this one won't do the job ?
Will linux recognise these hard disks and an extra controller at
boot time ?

I was reading lilo and I found something upsetting ,that lilo won't recognise a 3 or 4
disk system
My BIOS allows for a primary master and slave as well as a secondary master and slave
So I am wondering if there are anybody out there with 3 or 4 disk system ?

Does anybody know how to get smail to work ?
I get all sorts write access errors. It can't to the /var/spool/mail/
directory when the permissions are correct.
BOTTOM LINE: how can I get smail to work properly ?

I using smail and fetchmail.
Fetchmail works fine with sendmail. It drops the mail off
in my /var/spool/mail/ directory just fine.
Not so with smail. I use fetchmail and it gets the mail and
it is no where to be found.

I don't see the kernel headers for kernel 2.2.16-3 in Rh7 listing of files.
All I see is 2.4 kernel headers. Will kernel 2.2.16-3 compile with kernel
headers 2.4 ?

At some future time when redhat release kernel 2.4.x I will get a 20 or 30
GB harddisk.
I have a question.
Suppose I get a 20 GB drive. I split the disk into 3 partitions.
device mount drive space
/dev/hda /NT or /win2k 10 GB |
/dev/hda
does the following crontab entry
01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/run.hourly
read
run at 1 am everyday and month run-parts ?
The problem is I thought crontab entries were of the format

This would point to the fact that the root=/dev/sdx is pointing to the
wrong device. You'll have to fix this in order to get it working. This
can be changed in /etc/lilo.conf. it should be something like
root=/dev/md0.

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I had forgotten to include raid1.o
module in the initrd.img in the bootdisk. It almost work now
It seems that now during the boot process it can create and start the
raid array. One of the arrays md0 contains the root filesystem.
How can command at to run xfmail at 10am say on monday?
I tried this line the following
:at 10:00 am
>xfmail
and nothing happened
also I tried
:at 10:00 am xfmail
and nothing happened.
What am I doing wrong ?

My screen is flickering something fierce !
When I type, it flickers on and off and goes black more than once.
When I drop to console mode it flickers in different colors too.
