I am new to ftp servers...I have proftpd running with a basic
annoymous proftpd.conf file. I am wondering how to limit access to
one directory only. the way it is now is the person loging in can
look around (read/but not write priv..) Perhaps someone could send
in their proftpd.conf file so i

the ftp server... I have decided that I want it now what is the best way
to install it. Should I use the cd and do and upgrade or simple install
the packages myself from the disk...and what are the packages?? thankx

My box is locking up once in a while...and it happens with difference
programs...the screen freezes and then things go transparent except for
icons...all text disappears...anyone know a way I could diagnose what the
problem is?? I am using a voodoo 3 video card and I think it might have
check the log file, I wouldn't know what I was looking for...but I will
check anyway..
Have you checked log files? Do you get a core dump? Are you doing the
same thing everytime it locks up?

Sometimes too much ram causes this problem...When I tried to install 6.2
with 128 I got the same error. Try starting with linux mem=64M

I am using rpm 3.0.4-0.48 this is what came with rh6.2... should I have
upgraded this?? If so to which one?? I sometimes get sag faults when installing rpms
and have to reboot

I had a problem were I had to hit reset on the box (I now that is bad to start)
When rebooting filesystem failed so i had to run fsck. It seemed to fix a lot
of things (like 100 or more) Then I rebooted and when I logged in it said "no
/root directory" and bash$ came up. I tried to start x

Anyone using Galeon web browser?? Is is possible to make an icon for it instead
of running it from a terminal window? I tried making a launcher and telling it
to run and in a window but the window crashes (it just flashes quickly)...that

I have never used telnet. I am not totally clear on what it is or how it works.
From what I understand from reading a few docs is that it is a little like
pcanywhere...is this the case.

The update for helix gnome downloads the rpms fine, however when it starts to
install them it crashs...segmentation fault... Is there a way to fix this or a way
to install all of the rpms quickly like a "install all rpms in this directory
command??"

This goes with my previous message about tcp ports listening. Someone mentioned
something you could do to orbit to change the way it use tcp ports or unix
