Try to use the ftp client in passive mode.
Why don't you use the "vsftp", shipped with your distro? It's more easy
for setup, and more secure.

New to this list, so hi all.
I have seen reports of this problem before, with no conclusive solution.
On a fresh 7.1 install, I can ftp localhost without a problem on the
box.
Remote ftp sessions connect, then are "closed by remote host".
syslog shows nothing interesting.
I have checked:
- host
The most imp point here is check out if ftp package is installed using
"rpm -q wu-ftpd" without quotes
This may work for you.

Are you using ip_masq_ftp? You need to load this module to use FTP
through ipchains. (This is in the masquerading FAQs somewhere, I'm
sure.)

Hi all,
I'm using ipchains masquerading to provide NET access to my Lan. On my
Redhat 6.2 router box, I have just one rule : ipchains -A forward -j

and on my SuSE firewall/ISDN gateway I have ( its not much of a firewall

Hi all;
I have just completed another install of RHL5.0 and for some reason that
could quite possibly be operator error, in.ftpd did not get built. So being
a bit of hack I copied one from another RHL5.0 install machine onto the
proper place on the machine without and gave inetd a HUP. So ftp

We went through passive FTP hell here as well until I added the following to
our /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall (called from rc.local):
# load ip masquarading modules
modprobe ip_masq_ftp
modprobe ip_masq_irc
modprobe ip_masq_raudio
BUT...we are running masquerading, so I don't know if this would work fo
on to your problem may well be the
implementation of a proxy.
Hope that helps a little, anyway.
