How do I get the card to come up?
Like Mikkel says, remove the options line. If that fails, get the latest
tulip drivers from scyld.com.

After many hours of everything than can go wrong going wrong, I got a
couple of Linksys LNE100TX cards, one of which will go in right now
for the DSL connection and the other for the in-house network.
The problem is that the system sees the new card, it won't configure a
moule for it.

That's it. Assuming you have a relatively new version (Version 4.0) of
the Linksys card, then you will need the current tulip driver. The
Linksys board came with a driver floppy with a directory named "linux".
That contains a readme that refers you to:
