1. Are you sure you have a winmodem? Check your documentation/users manual. You
might also find the information at http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html useful.
2. Read the Modem-HOWTO. You should find it on your RedHat CD, or you can read it
here:
In reference to the aubject, winmodems are trash (and not real modems) and

winmodem but I don't know about your specific

http://www.linmodems.org Driver is by chipset, you have a Lucent.
The last thing that I'm saying here is that it's going to work. Honestly,
you'll be better off with a new modem... one that's *not* a software modem.

I have a Lucent PCI Winmodem in my laptop, running RH's 2.2.16-3
kernel, and
WinmodemIt depends on the chipset. Lucent has a kernel module
http://www.lucent.com/ ) that is supposed to work, but I haven't gotten it
up yet. They only supply the compiled module (.o) and no source and not
much documentation.

I've still got my internal winmodem. Would it be that hard to get an
external? Would I take out in the internal then, or just have to plug
in the external and point Linux to a different line?
