Ops! Ment to say "call the MCR100" a desktop repeater.

Mike, I would then assume you would recommend selling the Maratrac and
using the procedes to buy what? Which Motorola radio in a similar
price range would be your choice?
I can't afford a MTR2000 or similar repeater but rather converting a
high power mobile into repeater service with proper
Sorry for the repost but I can't believe no one is using a Maratrac as a
repeater transmitter.
I have a Maratrac and don't know whether to use it as my repeater
transmitter or opt for a Mitrek instead. Any opinions?

Glad to hear you have good success with a 40 watt radio turned down to
8 watts. There was some discussion on here some time ago that Motorola
radios become unstable when turned down with which I disagree.
I have had good success turning GM300s down to save finals for those
long winded QSOs.
Thanks for the confirmation Kevin. I thought the information about the
GR500 being a completely different animal than the GR300 was incorrect.
The GR500 cooling screamed at full speed regardless of heat. I used to
disconnect the fan so I could hear myself think while working on the

Do you know what it is using for a radio or radios? GM300s? R1225
module? High RF noise enviroment?
It should make a pretty good repeater except either one of those
combinations isn't the best for long winded QSOs. Make sure the fan is
in good working order and the air intact and exhaust op
I thought the GR500 could also be configured with two GM300 or M120 mobiles?
When the R1225 module came out, a conversion kit was available to
install it in the GR500 housing instead of two mobiles?
I could be wrong...

Eric,
My entire reason for posting my original question was because for years
I have ordered just xtals for elements on commercial repeaters and
changed them myself. Everytime the xtal netted just fine. Even in
tower shacks with minimal temperature control it was very rare for the

I tried another channel element and the error was worse. Both the xtal
and element are on their way back to ICM. It will be interesting to see
if ICM admits an error or blames it on the element.

I am moving a 463/468 MHz Micor repeater to 444/449 MHz. I ordered new
xtals from ICM and the receive xtal is OK. However I can't get the xmit
xtal to pull onto freq. It will pull within 3 KHz above 444.350 MHz.
This isn't the first Micor I have changed rocks in myself. I've done
