The size of PowBase for 80 patterns is 800Ko, thanks to compression
by Winzip. A base of 3000 patterns would be 30Mo, and this is
not a problem, even on a simple PC with full Inter
Dear All,
I think that standardisation is an important topic at the moment- the dawn of
a database of diffraction patterns. If you take a look through the different
formats that GSAS and FULLPROF can accept (I name those only for convenience)
it is a bit of a jungle- I include of course both 2-ax

The current format used in PowBase is diplayed also by

While the database system Armel has done looks good,,
this still leaves the problem of a common file
format. If CIF was used, many of the problems/requests
described by Andrew would become non-issues.

Armel,
Not bad for a few hours work! I hope that everyone gives some feedback because
this is a great opportunity to decide what we as users want in a database.
Perhaps we should also return to one of the old chestnuts (quaint English
expression that means 'classic argument') from the powder di
Let us discuss on something concrete.
I do not believe that a database of powder patterns
needs necessarily to use all the definitions which are
in the Powder CIF dictionary for being a useful database.
So that, in 2 hours, I have built PowBase, containing
now 2 powder patterns (and probably
