Sticking my neck out for asking a dumb question, but I have installed the
RDD Appliance several times on VMWare workstation for test purposes,
downloaded from the 2.2.1 and other versions from the appliance web site.
The CENTOS installs as expected but not a trace of Rivendell anywhere, not

Hello All,
New install on Debian Wheezy 7.1 / RDD 2.5.2. Overall the install has gone
fine but have run into a roadblock where Jack doesn't see RDD, it does see
darkice and the darkice mount point shows up in icecast. The system logs
say "PULSEAUDIO DOES NOT SINK" or something similar. Not sure
Your post Fred is helpful. I found this post from the past and thought I'd
try to resurrect it. I am curious about the RDD Broadcast Appliance, I
have downloaded it several times from the Paravel site but have encountered
repeated corrupt installs, errors referring to a kernel panic and other

All,
Since the last post I stepped out into Debian 64 bit world from my small
little world of Suse and have had some much better results, so far I
haven't encountered the issues in Debian mentioned previously. I find
Centos a bit primitive, spent some time trying to get it going but decided
to tr
I have also discovered during the install process if I run the
mysq_install_db it will corrupt the database. It is repeatable. I'm not a
real Mysql expert so it makes it a challenge to get Rdd to log into Mysql,
then to reboot it gets corrupted again and blown out of the water, after it
may work
Hello,
I've been installing Rdd on Opensuse v 11.4 and 12.1. I have gotten it
installed, rdairplay comes up ok, then I come back later after the OS is
shut down and it errors out "cannot start Rivendell Daemons". Thoughts and
suggestions would be appreciated.

I got jack to work with darkice on an earlier version of RDD 1.7.2 Opensuse
11.0 (?) Had trouble getting darkice to cooperate but found a cool gui
based utility called Darksnow that configured darkice. It worked great but
later versions seem to have disappeared. In any event it sounds like the

Thanks Fred.

Have had successful installs on Opensuse 11.4 and 12.2. The kicker is to
get all the repo's there for the dependencies.

I'm looking to hook into shoutcast, is there anyone who can comment on
that? I'm not finding much on the configuration out there.
Thanks ,

I think a "simple setup guide" for Rivendell is an oxymoron...:) O well,
job security.

I have been using both Rdd and M-Audio but not together. From the Fastrack
perspective I suspect it is most like b/c your USB driver lost
connection. I suggest check your devices (assuming Windows?) to see if it
is connected, then Fastrack also has a control feature that shows in the
control pan
I ran 1.72 for a long time quite stable. The main thing that I ran into to
compel me to update is that the Opensuse repositories disappeared. Suse
seems to like to turn out lots of new os releases then turn off the
repositories. I am in process with that update, looking into Centos, sounds

Does this build include streaming support ie darkice, jack and icecast?
BTW Thanks much for your contribution! This is awesome.

I endorse the idea of a web development effort. Question: I have been
running RDD 1.7.2 on Opensuse 11.0 for several years which has been quite
stable; however, JACK, Darkice, Darksnow, Suse and Mysql have all changed

Sounds good to me.

I also have been interested in this for a while, spent time on it and the
docs seem to be sparse, but if would be interested in a solution.

In my limited perspective I would like to see more attention devoted to now

I was getting a similar result with the same conditions. I discovered a
major change in the Mysql package that tended to derail RDD. I rolled back
to OpenSuse 11.0 and installed fine. Trouble is, 11.0 is end of life even if
it is quite stable, is still running fine. Fred, and others on this list
