Actually the latest sage-4.7.2.alpha4 no longer needs either
the '-lm' fix or the swapped symmetrica package; they've
both been fixed and build fine. Good job from the
sage build gurus!
The one remaining problem for some of us is the 'readline'
error during the 'R' build; its kinda fixable by doi

good point, I will make the icons run sage -notebook

Cross-posting since it was not obvious to me how to get past
symmetrica build failures:

Dear Andrea,
Run this in a terminal:
sudo apt-get install dpkg-dev
and try again please.

Installing dpkg-dev and re-running `make` got the install past that
error. Hooray for useful logging!

Hi group, just a quick note that building sage-4.7.1 from source on a
fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 fails with this in the end of the log:

Yes, I probably should have said that the spirit of sage is in sync
with
the spirit of this manifesto. One of the founding principles of sage
is
that one should be able to check the code to verify claims by authors,
and the manifesto addresses that same issue. Were the manifesto

I updated the current Live CD image.

I would really like to finally finish the PARI upgrade in order to merge
it in sage-4.7.3.alpha0. There are still two tickets which need review
for the new PARI:
* #11130: Update PARI to version 2.5.0. Almost everything here has
positive review, only the very trivial patch 11130-4.7.2.alpha3.pat
The manifesto seems not to adress computer algebra systems since it is about
code written specifically for processing data for a published paper. Since
the code in sage is intended for use by multiple scientist and not for a
specific paper it seems not really legit to discuss how well sage fits
