My two
cents (for what it's worth)... I'd rather SA stay small & lean. This sort of
task is what scheduled scripts were designed for. And it's the way I'd do it
_anyway_, even if SA had the capability natively, so that I can keep all my like
tasks in a single place, commonly a

Force Update and it'll update the web data. Simply refreshing right away
after changing modes simply doesn't do the trick unless SAlive does it's
check in between.
Thanks for this great software, Mark!

Having the application do as much work as possible
is usually a good idea if it knows what you want. That's what makes it
tough for application designers. Determining how a certain feature should

You can use
ForFiles, which can be found here:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/reskit/y2kfix/x86/
Use it like this to
kill off anything older than 30 days. Basically it runs the -c"cmd..."
string for all of the files it finds that match the criteria of being older than
30 days.
Just use the automatic refresh option that's already there in the options.
Richard's right. SAWeb is dependant on SA to let it know that an entry has
changed status, and SA doesn't show that in the telnet interface until it's
gone through another cycle.

If you're using Getif and you load the MIB, it will show you in plain
English what APC Specific OID's are available. They'll be under the
Mbrowser in Hierarchical fashion. You should be able to download the
APC MIB from here
http://www.apcc.com/tools/download/software_comp.cfm?sw_sku=sdw99.3.6.0
Put this:
in the header portion of your webpage template and it'll refresh every
120 seconds.

Richard,
I have
a similar problem with backup files for Oracle, and files for Remedy, but I use
"countfiles" in SA to let me know when they are overflowing, then I use AT
scheduler to invoke a series of delete commands. Not sophisticatedbut
it works :)

You could write a batch file and then have Salive run it and move/delete the logs as you want...

PS limiting log file size would be good to

I agree with Richard. Most other
applications (including Windows and most virus scans) have this functionality.

We don't think it's the application that should delete files. It's
something the admin should do and therefore we never added this feature to
Servers Alive.

Just a minor thing
that would be good. Would it be possible to restrict the quantity of log files
that Salive stores. For example, I tend to set Salive to create a new log each
day - it would be good to only keep a maximum of 30 days of logs so that the
disk does not fill up.
If I remember rightly, you don't see the change immediately. Once
Servers Alive has completed it's check cycle, you then need to refresh
SAWeb and you'll see the change.
Best wishes
