Hello all,
Yesterday I've setup samba 3.0.2pre1 as PDC on linux Debian Wooody with
2.4.24 kernel on my home network. I have also 2 additional machnies running
win2k with sp4 included. Samba conf file is as attached below:

Hi all,...
... currently I am trying to get hold of a strange error which is
successfully keeping me from sleeping the last week. Basically, I am
running a DebianGNU/Linux based machine with samba 3.0.0 as a backup
server for an amount of Windows NT4 workstations. There is an old backup
Try using SWAT. It is the SAMBA Web configuration tool. It is much
easier to use. To get to it, open up Mozilla on your Linux box and point
to http://localhost:901. You will need to logon as root. Please note
that root must be added as a SAMBA user first. You can do this by typing

I might have missed the statement about policy regarding smbmount
permissions. And, I have seen a lot of discussion in mail lists. What
we all have noticed is what follows.
For an ordinary mortal to mount a Samba share (equivalent to Windows
connect network drive), one needs the following
Hi,
Using Samba 3.0.1 on SuSE Linux (follow symlinks on) we noticed the following
behaviour:
A symbolic link to a file gets overwritten (replaced) by the target-file contents if
the symbolic link is saved from a windows client.
This is not what we expected, because a link represents the file,
Is it possible to mount (using smbmount) a samba share from a linux samba server
on a linux client preserving the file attributes as they are on the server,
thus preserving the executable bit on a per-file basis?
smbmount has the fmask and dmask arguments, but I do not want to use
these, but use
I developed a solution to the problem where you might have systems
setup w/ winbind mapping GIDs and UIDs, NSS, and PAM setup so windows users
can login, but winbind maps possible different UIDs/GIDs from system
to system preventing unified UIDs/GIDs in your environment.
I tried having one box

After playing around with dos filetime and fake directory create
didn't know that you need to add a root user.
I guess it's done at install. I certainly never did it.

If you are just trying to backup the files from NT
to SAMBA, I'd use xcopy /m instead. /m copies
files with the archive attribute set, and then
turns off the archive attribute. That way you
don't have to worry about the dates.

The messages samba receives over the Lan are owned by user nobody, I can

Hello,
I originally ran into this problem when trying to use administrator
mapped to root account. I finally settled on using root user in LDAP.
Everything works for joining W2kand XP clients to domain.
LDAP entry for uid=root :
sn: root
objectClass: inetOrgPerson
objectClass: sambaSAMAccount

I am getting the following error when trying to connect to
http://localhost:901
500 Server Error
chdir failed - the server is not configured correctly
Are there any known fixes for this ?
Also:
I noticed that some of the directives, such as datadir, might be
non-functional or ignored
fixed it! thank you sir.
i also found that i had run 'passwd' rather than 'smbpasswd'

Hi there,
I'm new to this list, so it's quite probable this topic has already been
discussed. If this is the case, just point me to the correct message(s)
in the archive. However, search/google didn't help me :(
My problem is quite simple: I don't want any of the lots and lots of log messages
Hello again everyone,
I recently setup a username/password protected share on our Samba 3.0
server and am having trouble accessing it with Windows clients. When I
try this, I get the typical Windows error, This share is not
accessible, etc etc.
I was able to gain access with OS X though. I

Hmmm, do you have the encrypted/plain text password correct?
Does the share have the same user/password as your Windows login?
Windows seems to not allow to change it after login.
I only know about W95/98

Yes, I've made several attempts with the password one finger at a time.
Does the Windows login have to be the same as the share
username/password? That will be a problem, because the person
accessing this share doesn't have a dedicated workstation. She kind of
roams around...
Thank you.
As far as I know the username and password used to access samba is the
same you use when u log into Windows (again, I am familiar with W95/98)
If you have roaming users, (we do) install a PDC and use (NT) domain
logon. The user profiles are then stored on the samba. That works pretty
good in
