that usrmgr can only be used fully when logged
into a 2k/XP machine as root and that there is no functionality for the
domain admin group to do this?
On the brightside I successfully migrated from a smbpasswd backend to tdbsam

was a primary domain controller and a
secondary domain controller, but the primary controller went down and now
the secondary is now the primary. It can see the linux box, but none of the
workstations can see it.

I am hoping someone on the list can shed some light for me on this.
I have a smb server with shares configured and I know that they are working properly.
I have now had the same experience with three new users and can't explain the
behavior. Not sure if it's samba related or and issue in Win
', which is mapped to the
unixgroup 'students').
All my groups appear in the poledit 'Browse' window, and
'smbstatus' shows a member of 'students' has indeed logged in.
Any idea what may be wrong? Is this something I cannot do in
Samba 3 with a Win2k

Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)

You are correct about this same problem on doze boxes. Another thing
that also happens, is when the use closes the file, and reopens, it is
still marked as read only. I experience this with office xp. I know this
isn't much help, but at least you know you aren't alone :-D

I believe that similar questions have been posted to the list, but I can't
recall seeing a resolution to this problem.
I have a number of Solaris and Linux machines that are configured to use
Kerberos to authenticate against our Windows 2003 Active Directory. The
problem is that when I use SAMB
I trying to diagnose why my PDC is consistantly
unavailabe on an intermitant basis. I've started to
run snoop (a packet sniffer) on my Samba server in
order to see what is going on. Question is, what
am I looking for? I'm running 2.2.8a on a Solaris 8
box.
Before you ask, I've tried everything,
The time delay on the user request is only
seconds and the file system has not changed in anyway. The index is
built and then the user attempts to use it. But it doesn't work properly.
Perhaps the info above will be of some assistance to identify what is
required here.

Do you still need unix groups on the samba 3 machine to map to the ADS

override your registry entries. If this is true and you also have to
reboot for the registry entries to take effect, then it won't work.

This morning I upgraded two machines to samba 3.0.1 (from version
3.0.0). One machine is a member of our production Windows 2000 Active
Directory. The other is a member of our test Windows 2003 Active
Directory. I made no changes to the smb.conf file after doing the
upgrade. However,
the 9x

If it fails to print propery, it is a bug in the 9x printer driver
software, and not samba/cups.

smbmount or mount -t smbfs do not support large files. I.e. > 2Gb files.
I suggest that this is a bug in the linux kernel, and should be fixed there.
