I have to second Konstantin on the main drivers for linux. C++ and python. We've opted to use Fedora for folks who want them (all desktops) but we're sticking with CentOS-7 for servers. We have a couple of CentOS-8 appliances but we'll be replacing them with BSD. For those who are curious,
