Hi,
Try this updated review on several network vulnerability tools.
eEye Retina won a blue ribbon award when compared to other free or
commercial products.
Personally I found Retina as being the most cost effective tool, yet
powerful, in this field.

Best network scanner is nmap and it is free and runs on *nix.
http://www.insecure.org/nmap
You can use npulse along with nmap which will give you the web based
access.
http://www.horsburgh.com/h_npulse.html
nmap + npulse is simply the best.

Shadow Security Scanner (while not being free) is a good application.

There is a command line version of NMap for Win32 but it is flaky
somewhat. Shadow Security scanner is a great freeware scanner for Win32
but if you want really Heavy Duty for an NT environment, go with Retina,
available in a limited demo from www.eeyes.org

We use a combo of a free scanner (Nessus) www.nessus.org and a commercial
scanner (ISS Internet Scanner) www.iss.net .
We use the ISS scanner day-to-day to keep our network security tight, but
then use a laptop with Nessus to double check or network every few months or
before a large audits ect.
