Alan, An addendum: Rereading your post, I can add something. They measured all of the shafts a specific lengths from the Butt and Tip. These points were the mark that was at the front edge of the frequency analyzer's clamp. eg. a 3" tip point would have the tip inserted 3", etc. I believe
